Named
for Christina McDonald, the daughter of the chief trader at Fort Colville
between 1852 and 1871, Christina Lake is one of the warmest lakes
in Canada and for over 100 years has been the summer destination of
the residents of Trail, Grand Forks, Rossland and Colville, WA as
well as international travellers.
At the northern end of Interstate 395, which runs from Mexico to Canada, where it joins Crowsnest Highway 3, Christina Lake is easily accessible from both the United States and Canada. Spokane is 2.5 hours south of Christina Lake on highway 395, and Calgary and Vancouver are 8 and 7 hours by car respectively. Castlegar airport is a 45 minute drive east. Pleasant accommodations are offered with over 600 camping spaces, 100 motel units, cabins, cottages, and bed and breakfasts. Good food is provided by a wide variety of restaurants and food shops such as a delicatessen, butcher shop, bakery, expresso bar fruit stand and fast food and ice cream outlets. For the outdoor enthusiasts there are 2 golf courses, a marina, boat rentals, mountain bike and kayak sales and rentals, hiking and biking trails, beaches, provincial parks and guided tours. Some of the activities include tennis, fishing, swimming, lawn bowling, sailing and water skiing. Christina Lake enjoys warm dry summers and relatively mild winters. The average winter temperature range is from -8 to -2 degrees Celsius. In the summer the temperature ranges from 18 to 30 degrees Celsius, with mid summer temperatures often reaching well into the 30's.
