Creston  - Gateway to the Kootenays
When gold and silver were discovered in the Kootenays people came to the Creston Valley and Creston became a major railway and paddle wheeler terminus for miners heading up Kootenay Lake.  Creston is now Creston can be reached on Highways 3 and 3A or by coming north on Interstate Highways 2 or 95 from Idaho or Montana. a thriving business centre. 

Creston's  main attraction is the Creston Wildlife Management Area where an interpretive centre offers the opportunity to learn about the numerous species of birds, reptiles, and mammals that inhabit the nearby wetlands.  Also available are interpretive walks and canoe rides through the marsh.

Other attractions include touring the famous Columbia Brewing Company, the Kootenay Candle Factory or the  Creston & District Museum & Archives.  Creston also has a challenging and beautiful 18 hole golf course and don't forget to stop at a fruit stand or take a walk through an orchard.

North of Creston, along Highway 3A, lies the east shore of Kootenay Lake with art galleries, beaches, campgrounds, and panoramic views of the Selkirk and Purcell Mountains.
