The Cowichan Valley South Cowichan Ladysmith Ladysmith Festival of Lights and award winning historic main street, ferry access to Salt Spring Island (the largest of the Gulf Islands). Getting Here The area is reached by taking Highway 1 south from Nanaimo or Highway 1 north from Victoria. It is comprised of several small villages and towns whose inhabitants enjoy a leisurely lifestyle. It is an excellent area for outdoor activities with its scenic lakes, forests, ocean shores, and excellent parks. The area is also world famous for its native crafts and Cowichan Indian Sweaters. The hub of the area is Duncan with the Mill Bay, Cobble Hill, Shawnigan Lake, Cowichan Bay, Honeymoon Bay, Youbou, Lake Cowichan, Crofton, Chemainus and Ladysmith being the other communities.
