Ucluelet
is a town with a population of approximately 1,800 situated on the West
Coast of Vancouver Island surrounded by rainforest and spectacular views
of the Pacific Ocean. The average temperatures range from 4 (C) to 17
(C) with little snowfall. The area is famous for excellent fishing, whale
watching, kayaking, hiking, scuba diving, storm watching, beach combing,
nature cruises, old growth forests and rest and relaxation. The ocean
is home to a myriad of creatures, and the skies to many species of birds
including the bald eagles.
The 20-kilometer
stretch of pristine beach at Pacific Rim National Park Reserve are some
of the attractions and activities which draw visitors from around the
world. Fish Barkley Sound for salmon, cod, and halibut. Ucluelet has one
of the largest fleets of guided charter vessels on the West Coast. Discover
splendidly scenic Amphitrite Point and Lighthouse and explore the trails
around He-Tin-Kis Park. The "Wild Pacific Trail" offers a unique
opportunity for safe, close-at-hand viewing of the open Pacific Ocean.
The bedrock cliff formations and the fierce wave action from storms produce
spectacular views. The intense winds on the exposed shoreline trees and
shrubs produce breathtakingly sculptured, surreal scenes. Whales, sea
lions, seals, birds of all sorts live, feed and may be viewed in the proximity
of these rocks. The Wild Pacific Trail offers an advantage over the West
Coast Trail in that it is a lot more user friendly. An "Average"
hiker or walker can do a portion of the trail, and stop at any one of
a number of trail access points.

boaters, canoeists, and kayakers enjoy the beautiful waters and coastlines
of Barkley Sound and the Broken Group Islands. For the novice, take a
half-day trip by kayak or canoe and discover the wild side of the inner
harbour. Dive
into the waters of Barkley Sound and around the Broken Group Islands for
an underwater adventure among the numerous reefs and shipwrecks.
To reach Ucluelet from the Capital City of British Columbia, Victoria, take Highway 1 to Nanaimo and continue on the scenic route to Parksville. Go west to Port Alberni and take the Pacific Rim Highway to Ucluelet. B.C. Ferries will bring you to either Sidney (outside Victoria) or Nanaimo and other transportation possibilities include the Coach Lines and North Vancouver Air.
Tofino Bus - The Tofino Bus provides daily service from Victoria to Long Beach and from Nanaimo to Long Beach. This 11 passenger Ford Van serves mainly backpack travellers, but also carries bikes, surfboards and kayaks.
